It’s been a while since I tossed Country into this mix. I’m choosing Roseanne Cash, especially noting the Wheel, Seven Year Ache and Tennessee Flat Top Box.

Her voice has such an earthy sound to me. If you’re not familiar with her

Rosanne Cash (born May 24, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter and author. She is the eldest daughter of country musician Johnny Cash and Vivian Liberto Cash Distin, Johnny Cash’s first wife. Although she is often classified as a country artist, her music draws on many genres, including folkpoprockblues, and most notably Americana. In the 1980s, she had a string of genre-crossing singles that entered both the country and pop charts, the most commercially successful being her 1981 breakthrough hit “Seven Year Ache“, which topped the U.S. country singles chart and reached the Top 30 on the U.S. pop chart.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosanne_Cash

“The Wheel,  is the eighth studio album by singer and songwriter Roseanne Cash. Most of the songs on the album reflected Cash’s feelings on embarking on a new relationship with John Leventhal (music producer) after her divorce from Rodney Crowell. ” Though neither of its two singles, “The Wheel” and “You Won’t Let Me In”, charted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, the album received considerable critical acclaim.”~ wikipedia.

How long was I asleep?
When did we plan to meet?
Have you been waiting long for me?
When did the sky turn black?
Do you still want me back?
I’ll pick it all up piece by piece.

And the wheel goes round and round.
And the flame in our souls will never burn out.
And the wheel, and the wheel goes round.

I am a river with a voice.
I came into your life by choice.
And none can judge just how that feels.
You are a messenger from God.
You are the angel I forgot.
And who’s to say that it isn’t real?

And the wheel goes round and round.
And the flame in our souls will never burn out.
And the wheel, and the wheel goes round.

I’m not looking for the answers.
Oh, darling don’t you see
That just to know the question
Is good enough for me.Take up the hearts you came to heal.
Put down your dagger and your shield.
You need fear nothing now from me.
I see the essence of the man.
I stand before you as a friend.
The truth moves through us even when we sleep

.And the wheel goes round and round.
And the flame in our souls will never burn out.
And the wheel, and the wheel goes round.

She also wrote Seven Year Ache.

You act like you were just born tonight
Face down in a memory but feeling all right
So who does your past belong to today?
Baby, you don’t say nothing when you’re feeling this way

The girls in the bars thinking, “Who is this guy?”
But they don’t think nothing when they’re telling you lies
You look so careless when they’re shooting that bull
Don’t you know heartaches are heroes when their pockets are full

Tell me you’re trying to cure a seven-year ache
See what else your old heart can take
The boys say, “When is he gonna give us some room”
The girls say, “God I hope he comes back soon”

Everybody’s talking but you don’t hear a thing
You’re still uptown on your downhill swing
Boulevard’s empty, why don’t you come around?
Baby, what is so great about sleeping downtown?

Plenty of dives to be someone you’re not
You say you’re looking for something you might’ve forgot
Don’t bother calling to say you’re leaving alone
‘Cause there’s a fool on every corner when you’re trying to get home

Just tell ’em you’re trying to cure a seven-year ache
See what else your old heart can take
The boys say, “When is he gonna give us some room”
The girls say, “God I hope he comes back soon”

Tell me you’re trying to cure a seven-year ache
See what else your old heart can take
The boys say, “When is he gonna give us some room”
The girls say, “God I hope he comes back soon”Source: LyricFind
