ABC Momma

ABC Momma
A cool momma always
becomes a child’s best
consistent companion
during difficult times
encouraging and supportive
A cool momma

finds ways to make
good and fun things
happen when needed most
invests herself without
juggling too much

A cool momma has

kisses and hugs in abundance
love shines like honey on a comb
multiplying over time and
nurtured just right
only to improve with time

A cool momma

propels us on a course
quintessentially perfect
regaling us with directions to
sail through life’s obstacles
taking strides confident
united universally on a mission

A cool momma is

vital to a child’s success
without ever losing sight
xenia rocks way
yelling joyfully
zealous always

A cool momma knows
she is blessed to have a child.©

Babble Along Alone

Brooks and people babble

Artists and writers dabble

Dabble with hobbies

Dabble with life

Life satisfies

Life really hurts

Hurts so much

Hurts so little

Little pieces of me

Little pieces of you

You haunt me

You made me choose

Choose to stay

Choose to leave

Leave the way I came

Leave the bubbles

Bubbles floating

Bubbles bursting

Bursting in color

Bursting in rage

Rage filled with nonsense

Rage shutting down

Down so sad

Down underneath the soil

Soil surrounding me

Soil crushing…no air

Air intoxicating

Air musty and heavy

Heavy with wetness

Heavy and chilled

Chilled to the bone

Chilled and alone

Alone gratefully

Alone babbling

Babbling alive

This is a form of looped poetry where the last word is the first of the next line. I took liberties with the first two lines.

World Poetry Day

“World Poetry Day is on 21 March, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999. The purpose of the day is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world ‘to give fresh recognition and impetus to national, regional and international poetry movements’.”

Acrostic poetry is where the first letter of each line spells a word, usually using the same words as in the title.  A twist on the acrostic is using the alphabet as the first letter of word in the line.

In this poem I’ve chosen to use the alphabet acrostic to tell you about me.

A-Z of Lyn Poem

Author of  In My Shoes, My Poetic Journey from Abuse to Victory
Brilliant at times, usually in the kitchen
Crocheter, chef, I love wearing different caps
Deliberate who me, I’m an angel of sorts
Energetic daily, life is to short not to be
Fiber oh please, I am not that old
Grains a bowl of cheerios, how can you go wrong
Habitual why yes I am, guilty of loving routines
Involved in too many things at one time
Jovial usually, negativity does not suit me
Kinky I have my moments ask my spouse
Liberal indeed I am, I am very open minded.
Mom, to four wonderful children and nine awesome grandchildren
Nice that’s been said a time or two
Optimistic more often than not that would be the Irish in me
Pessimistic seldom, and If I am a good Irish whiskey will cure it
Quilter with a serious fabric stash
Reads avidly particularly history and biographies
Silent type not hardly, I am definitely opinionated
Typical never, I’m an Irish lass
Unique very so I am told
Vindictive no, in the long run it is not worth it
Wicked yes I am a Mainer
Xi fourteenth letter in Greek alphabet
Yes I play scrabble, actually very lucky at it
Zealous, I am indeed devoted to my family and friends.

Self-Promotion

irish dance shoesI was looking in my port on Writing.com when I saw this poem, it’s one of my favorite poems I’ve written. I looked to see if I had shared it here on WordPress and discovered it among my early posts when I had one follower so I decided to share it again since I do have a larger following of poetry lovers.

It is done in couplets with a rhyming pattern on the end.

Love of an Irish Lass

He bowed his head in silence,
allowing his rattled breath to slow.

Closing his eyes, he could feel
the lively Celtic music flow.

He was swept away to days past,
Where her feet moved to and fro.

Oh wee lass, dance for me, I long to
see those ye’s rosy cheeks aglow.

Take me back to those days
Of hornpipes and tapping heel and toe.

Show me again those green Irish eyes
when you paused and bowed ever so low.

He lowered his head in silence again
cherishing his memories of long ago.

The lovely Irish ballad faded quietly away
and with it the old man’s final deathblow.©

Creating a system for my Poetry practice

Writing the Life Poetic by Sage Cohen.

isbn 978-I-58297-557 Publication date 2009

Poetry is a passion of mine, I love reading and writing poetry. I discovered this book and have devoured the suggestions to broaden my horizons, my skills, and my reading enjoyment.

One of the suggestions, Ms. Cohen recommends works for me. Create yourself a place to come to when you work. I found it very helpful and decided to pass on the suggestions with you.  The categories are flexible, it’s up to you but I found these really met my needs. My ability to focus and accomplishing daily goals surprised me with her suggestions.

Langston Hughes and me

Dream Deferred By Langston Hughes

What happens to a dream deferred?
1527_536743103033995_1809454923_n
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.Or does it explode?
I’ve asked myself that very question numerous times. I know more than once I’ve seen my hopes fade like the sun on a horizon. But I rose just like the sun refusing to accept my dream was deferred or over. I knew I was ready to share my story.

black-gloveBlack Glove by Lyn Crain

One single black glove left on the porch is all that is left a union of two.
The vivid, intense orange torch in their marriage flickered, now a black hue.
Angry words tossed into the flame, smothered immense passion.
Apologies spoken only sound lame, made the fire cold and ashen.
Violently shrugging away a touch, fighting a compulsion to flee.
Even a glance in his eye is too much. I must, Yes, I will be free.

Teen Dating Violence Awareness

You Pray by Lyn Crain

You pray
the pain to stop
it won’t for many hours.
Suffering silently, you pray.
He watches you coldly
You boldly stare,
silent.

“Dating violence is more common than many people think. One in three teens in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with before they become adults. Help us spread awareness and stop dating abuse before it starts!”

I was a teen bride and alone with my abuser. We lived in a very isolated rural area and I had no phone or car. Many of my poems in In My Shoes, My Poetic Journey from Abuse to Victory discuss that difficult time. There wasn’t social awareness of the problems that we have today. But unfortunately, the problem still exists. You can help our youth by raising awareness.

“Wear Orange Day is a national day of awareness where we encourage everyone to wear orange in honor of Teen DV Month. In 2017, it will be held on Feb. 14. You can wear orange shirts, nail polish, ribbons, jewelry, shoes or anything else you can think of! Tell people why you are wearing orange and post pictures and updates on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtags #Orange4Love and #RespectWeek2017.”

Mental Cruelty

“The scars from mental cruelty can be as deep and long-lasting as wounds from punches or slaps but are often not as obvious. In fact, even among women who have experienced violence from a partner, half or more report that the man’s emotional abuse is what is causing them the greatest harm.” ~Lundy Bancroft

Verbal abuse hurts more people than you realize and the impact lasts a lifetime.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
Nelson Mandela

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”
Albert Einstein

Please think before you speak.
