Underappreciated album for me really made me think about this a good share of today, I finally decided on Bon Jovi’s 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit. iI’s full of cathartic songs that came from the soul ,and not shooting from the groin. Unfortunately, the album release happened at a very difficult time in the group’s career. In and Out of Love is the only song that seemed to have faired the best on the album.
Bon Jovi is an American rock band formed in 1983 in Sayreville, New Jersey.” Bon Jovi has released 14 studio albums, five compilations and three live albums. They have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling American rock bands,”~ Wikipeida.
“John Francis Bongiovi Jr. (born March 2, 1962), known professionally as Jon Bon Jovi, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, philanthropist, and actor.”
The wait is over!! Time once again for SoCS where the lovely Linda writes and I re-write “Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “-tion.” Find a word that ends with “tion.” Bonus points if you start your post with it. Have fun!” Yeah Buddy. Bo- to the -nus. Or just BONUS!! 🙂 To join in the fun and frolic rules and ping back.
Fruition.. today’s goal is fruition. Enough, stalling is over. The goal is to organize the garage today so we can get what needs to go up for sale is set up in the garage. Our car is going to sit outside in the driveway for a bit.
Anticipation for me anyway: Exciting news Mik and Eddie finally have their own place so now I can mail packages. I didn’t want to send anything to her mothers. I have stacks upstairs for both granddaughters to mail since both girls now have their own place. It’s been long over due that Gramma thin out all this stuff.
Cooperation, I’m very thankful for a good friend who’s helping me with all the heavy crap today while Vic is out with a perspective insurance client. Yes, he’s masked and taking precautions.
I didn’t want to miss another Saturday stream of consciousness so I’m rushing a bit so I can get dressed and get this revolution going or should I say major re-construction project underway.
Satisfaction , Ruth Bader Ginsburg, served women well. And I want/need to take a moment to recognize her for everything she has done. Ginsburg’s death represents another loss from the ranks of people who have made “serious law and order a mission of their lives. I feel such a deep loss. It know it was a lot to put on a woman of her age to keep us safe and functioning as a constitutional democracy. But she understood our trust in her and took it in stride. Already, male idiots are touting the overturn of Roe vs. Wade. WTF?????
I know when they initially weren’t sure if the cancer growth was in pancreas I immediately thought of Ginsburg’s battle. She definitely gave cancer a run for its money. She was my hero.
I’m grateful that my growth was removable. I’m staying positive that the doctor got it all and I can move forward. But if isn’t than I’m going to fight as strongly as she did.
In the past I’ve mentioned Eleanor Roosevelt was my inspiration. I should have added Ruth Ginsburg as well. She never stopped fighting to the end.
Hopefully, her wishes will be honored that her position will remain vacant until we have new leadership. Women, this isn’t fiction, everything women have struggled to gain is at risk. Our votes matter. Biden/Harris are the only solution to stopping this dictator.
I’m done with hearing millennials pointing fingers saying it’s our mess. Well guess what the future is also going to be your nightmare. I know my generation has made a lot of mistakes, but I also know you’ll be making them too.
Do I like Biden, no I don’t. But I do like Harris. I’m also realistic enough to know that after the Hilary nightmare we won’t have a woman leader for many ions so I’m practical enough to push for having a woman Vice-President.
So vote or you’re one of the pussy grabbing silent supporters. If he’s re-elected than what happens is on you not me because I didn’t blow this situation off.
If you’re supportive of this adminstration count your blessings because they’re not going to last because change will occur if not this election the next one. In the meantime, well I said my peace… and change doesn’t frighten me… but will you handle it as well. They don’t call me the iron woman for nothing and it’s more than just my battles with cancer.
1974 Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot was released the summer after I graduated. It was # 1 in the US, the only Lightfoot album to accomplish that honor. The album marked the pinnacle of Lightfoot’s acoustic folk country blend before he embarked on an increasing use of electronic instruments.
I owned the song Sundown as a 45, but then I bought the album. Then I owned it again in cassettes, and then in cd.
I can see her lyin’ back in her satin dress In a room where ya do what ya don’t confess Sundown you better take care If I find you beenn creepin’ ’round my back stairs Sundown ya better take care If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs
She’s been lookin’ like a queen in a sailor’s dream And she don’t always say what she really means Sometimes I think it’s a shame When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain Sometimes I think it’s a shame When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain
I can picture every move that a man could make Getting lost in her lovin’ is your first mistake Sundown you better take care If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs Sometimes I think it’s a sin When I feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losin’ again
I can see her lookin’ fast in her faded jeans She’s a hard lovin’ woman, got me feelin’ mean Sometimes I think it’s a shame When I get feelin’ better when I’m feelin’ no pain Sundown you better take care If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs Sundown you better take care If I find you been creepin’ ’round my back stairs Sometimes I think it’s a sin When I feel like I’m winnin’ when I’m losin’ again
My second Lightfoot album was Summertime Dreams. My favorite song was the Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald. I just loved the storytelling ballad.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most With a crew and good captain well seasoned Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms When they left fully loaded for Cleveland And later that night when the ship’s bell rang Could it be the north wind they’d been feelin’?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the captain did too, T’was the witch of November come stealin’ The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait When the gales of November came slashin’ When afternoon came it was freezin’ rain In the face of a hurricane west wind
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin’ Fellas, it’s too rough to feed ya At seven p.m., a main hatchway caved in, he said Fellas, it’s been good to know ya The captain wired in he had water comin’ in And the good ship and crew was in peril And later that night when ‘is lights went outta sight Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Does any one know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searchers all say they’d have made Whitefish Bay If they’d put fifteen more miles behind ‘er They might have split up or they might have capsized They may have broke deep and took water And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings In the rooms of her ice-water mansion Old Michigan steams like a young man’s dreams The islands and bays are for sportsmen And farther below Lake Ontario Takes in what Lake Erie can send her And the iron boats go as the mariners all know With the gales of November remembered
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed, In the maritime sailors’ cathedral The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee Superior, they said, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early
I’ve received many albums over the years but this one brings back an special memory. Keep in mind this is before the internet. My Grandma didn’t drive nor did she actually go into stores so the fact that she pulled this off was pretty cool. Grandma called my friend Shar and asked for help. Grandma wanted to give me a gift I would truly love. Shar didn’t live very far from my grandparents so she went and picked up the money and went to the record shop downtown and got the album I was saving to buy.
It was my 14th birthday and the last thing I expected from my grandmother was an album. I never expected to get Steppenwolf Live. I squealed and jumped up and down like a crazy person.
Steppenwolf Live was a collection of recordings from a concert early in 1970 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium by Steppenwolf staged in support of their 1969 album Monster.
“”Hey Lawdy Mama” and “Magic Carpet Ride” are banded together as a single track, with a total running time of 7:13. A differently edited version of “Hey Lawdy Mama”, incorporating a fade-out instead of the segue, was released as a single. The songs “Twisted” and “Corrina, Corrina” are also studio versions which were EQ‘d and given some delay effects to match the actual live recordings and overdubbed with audience sounds at the beginning and ending of the songs” ~ Wikipeida.
I loved Magic Carpet Ride and Born to Be Wild. I played those two songs so much my grandmother wouldn’t let me bring the album when I came to visit her. She was sick of hearing them over and over after a couple of weeks.
Born to Be Wild
Get your motor runnin’ Head out on the highway Lookin’ for adventure And whatever comes our way Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of your guns at once And explode into spaceI like smoke and lightning Heavy metal thunder Racin’ with the wind And the feelin’ that I’m under Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of your guns at once And explode into spaceLike a true nature’s child We were born, born to be wild We can climb so high I never wanna dieBorn to be wild Born to be wildGet your motor runnin’ Head out on the highway Lookin’ for adventure And whatever comes our way Yeah Darlin’ go make it happen Take the world in a love embrace Fire all of your guns at once And explode into spaceLike a true nature’s child We were born, born to be wild We can climb so high I never wanna dieBorn to be wild Born to be wild
“Born to Be Wild by Mars Bonfire, which is the stage name of Dennis Edmonton. He wasn’t a member of Steppenwolf, but his brother Jerry was the band’s drummer. Bonfire wrote a few other songs for Steppenwolf as well, including “Ride With Me” and “Tenderness.”
Explaining how he came up with the song, Bonfire said: “I was walking down Hollywood Boulevard one day and saw a poster in a window saying ‘Born to Ride’ with a picture of a motorcycle erupting out of the earth like a volcano with all this fire around it. Around this time I had just purchased my first car, a little secondhand Ford Falcon. So all this came together lyrically: the idea of the motorcycle coming out along with the freedom and joy I felt in having my first car and being able to drive myself around whenever I wanted. ‘Born To Be Wild’ didn’t stand out initially. Even the publishers at Leeds Music didn’t take it as the first or second song I gave them. They got it only because I signed as a staff writer. Luckily, it stood out for Steppenwolf. It’s like a fluke rather than an achievement, though.”” ~ https://www.songfacts.com/facts/steppenwolf/born-to-be-wild
Magic Carpet Ride
I like to dream, yes, yes Right between the sound machine On a cloud of sound I drift in the night Any place it goes is right Goes far, flies near To the stars away from hereWell, you don’t know what We can find Why don’t you come with me little girl On a magic carpet rideWell, you don’t know what We can see Why don’t you tell your dreams to me Fantasy will set you freeClose your eyes girl Look inside girl Let the sound take you awayLast night I hold Aladdin’s lamp So I wished that I could stay Before the thing could answer me Well, someone came and took the lamp awayI looked Around A lousy candle’s all I foundWell, you don’t know what We can find Why don’t you come with me little girl On a magic carpet rideWell, you don’t know what We can see Why don’t you tell your dreams to me Fantasy will set you freeClose your eyes girl Look inside girl Let the sound take you away
Released in September 1968, Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride” became one of rock’s first songs to open with an extended passage of guitar distortion. The eerie prologue lasts 20 seconds and includes chugging electronic tones before dissolving into the song’s rhythmic power chords and blues-rock vocal. The timing of the longer guitar distortion in Magic Carpet Ride after Hendrix’s Foxey Lady’s short guitar distortion set the bar for heavy metal bands.
It’s been a while since I tossed Country into this mix. I’m choosing Roseanne Cash, especially noting the Wheel, Seven Year Ache and Tennessee Flat Top Box.
Her voice has such an earthy sound to me. If you’re not familiar with her
“Rosanne Cash (born May 24, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter and author. She is the eldest daughter of country musicianJohnny Cash and Vivian Liberto Cash Distin, Johnny Cash’s first wife. Although she is often classified as a country artist, her music draws on many genres, including folk, pop, rock, blues, and most notably Americana. In the 1980s, she had a string of genre-crossing singles that entered both the country and pop charts, the most commercially successful being her 1981 breakthrough hit “Seven Year Ache“, which topped the U.S. country singles chart and reached the Top 30 on the U.S. pop chart.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosanne_Cash
“The Wheel, is the eighth studio album by singer and songwriter Roseanne Cash. Most of the songs on the album reflected Cash’s feelings on embarking on a new relationship with John Leventhal (music producer) after her divorce from Rodney Crowell. ” Though neither of its two singles, “The Wheel” and “You Won’t Let Me In”, charted on the BillboardHot Country Singles & Tracks chart, the album received considerable critical acclaim.”~ wikipedia.
How long was I asleep? When did we plan to meet? Have you been waiting long for me? When did the sky turn black? Do you still want me back? I’ll pick it all up piece by piece.
And the wheel goes round and round. And the flame in our souls will never burn out. And the wheel, and the wheel goes round.
I am a river with a voice. I came into your life by choice. And none can judge just how that feels. You are a messenger from God. You are the angel I forgot. And who’s to say that it isn’t real?
And the wheel goes round and round. And the flame in our souls will never burn out. And the wheel, and the wheel goes round.
I’m not looking for the answers. Oh, darling don’t you see That just to know the question Is good enough for me.Take up the hearts you came to heal. Put down your dagger and your shield. You need fear nothing now from me. I see the essence of the man. I stand before you as a friend. The truth moves through us even when we sleep
.And the wheel goes round and round. And the flame in our souls will never burn out. And the wheel, and the wheel goes round.
You act like you were just born tonight Face down in a memory but feeling all right So who does your past belong to today? Baby, you don’t say nothing when you’re feeling this way
The girls in the bars thinking, “Who is this guy?” But they don’t think nothing when they’re telling you lies You look so careless when they’re shooting that bull Don’t you know heartaches are heroes when their pockets are full
Tell me you’re trying to cure a seven-year ache See what else your old heart can take The boys say, “When is he gonna give us some room” The girls say, “God I hope he comes back soon”
Everybody’s talking but you don’t hear a thing You’re still uptown on your downhill swing Boulevard’s empty, why don’t you come around? Baby, what is so great about sleeping downtown?
Plenty of dives to be someone you’re not You say you’re looking for something you might’ve forgot Don’t bother calling to say you’re leaving alone ‘Cause there’s a fool on every corner when you’re trying to get home
Just tell ’em you’re trying to cure a seven-year ache See what else your old heart can take The boys say, “When is he gonna give us some room” The girls say, “God I hope he comes back soon”

“The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!”
We writers, those ideas and the voices better become real on the page. Not that we need any added stress. We’ve more than enough competition in the writing field but then add the catchy phrases in songs.
(of something regarded as unpleasant) continuing without pause or interruption.
Consequences Holding her beloved mirror in hand the young woman studies her lost love. Her smoldering eyes peering barely hidden behind her lush lashes and ruby red lips in a brief shy smile. As she watches him with their son walking hand in hand toward their home. Her hand trembles slightly, a tear drop falls for this living forever isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Yet the young woman thought she could handle it never considering how desolate eternity could be without her love, her child. She sighs deeply knowing, another tear falls In her heart, the choice was right though the price was high.
The choice made at the time didn’t consider the incessant ramifications of living forever. I thought of how I would feel if the opportunity arose guaranteeing their health and happiness in exchange for my soul, could I do it as I wrote this Halloween poem. I know faced with assuring they’re healthy and happy once doesn’t stop… oh wait but they’ll be dead and I’m still living. That incessant detail isn’t forefront because we want the best for our loved ones.

Behind every mask there is a face, and behind that a story. – Marty Rubin
How can anyone think of the 80’s without thinking of Michael Jackson? The man behind the mask, the mystique of his life discussed and re-discussed in every cult magazine.
Billie Jean was my favorite song on this album but for the life of me I never understood why it wasn’t the opening song to the album. It certainly soared like a rocket when it was released.
The man himself was an enigma, the media couldn’t decide if he was a monster or an angel. “Before the success of Thriller, many felt Jackson had struggled to get MTV airing because he was black In an effort to attain air time for Jackson, CBS Records President Walter Yetnikoff pressured MTV and declared, “I’m not going to give you any more videos and I’m going to go public and fucking tell them about the fact you don’t want to play music by a black guy. His position persuaded MTV to begin airing “Billie Jean” and later “Beat It“, (along with Prince‘s “Little Red Corvette“) which led to a long partnership and later helped other black music artists to gain mainstream recognition. ” ~ wikipedia
Naturally, MTV denies claims of racism in their broadcasting but I do remember how the early years of MTV white artists dominated.
The world is full of monsters with friendly faces and angels full of scars.
I have to go with Janis Joplin. Another Piece of My Heart, Bobby McGee, and Summertime are songs that just take me back to my youth.
“Piece of My Heart” is a romantic funk/soul love song written by Jerry Ragovoy and Bert Berns, it was originally recorded by Erma Franklin in 1967. The song got mainstream attention when Big Brother and the Holding Company (featuring Janis Joplin … Although, the original version of “Piece of My Heart” was previously recorded by Aretha Franklin.
Me and Bobby McGee” was written by American singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson and originally performed by Roger Miller. Fred Foster shares the writing credit, as Kristofferson intended. A posthumously released version by Janis Joplin topped the U.S. singles … Later that year, Kris released his version. Interestingly Janis and Kris were lovers on and off.
I don’t know what it was but Janis Joplin, 1969 performance of Summertime … made her seem so much older and wiser than her then 26-years. … It’s been said that Janis was “the authority of a very old spirit.”.
Joplin’s death in October 1970 at age 27 stunned her fans and shocked the music world, especially when coupled with the death just 16 days earlier of another rock icon, Jimi Hendrix also at age 27. I mourned both of them.
