# three thing challenge

Imperfectly Perfect©

people post, comment

 all the time that

idealism is mismatched yet

perfectly paired denying

repair won’t hide our

 horrific brutality because

we need it

up close and unsettled to

inspire what we build underneath

what we’ve purposely seduced

to hide our betrayal

from a galaxy far, far, away

we lie to ourselves

with every potent belief

that says every one is equal

in this mismatched yet perfectly paired

world that neither changes

for better or worse

#Day 2 The last Album Listened too

https://sandmanjazz.wordpress.com/2020/09/02/30-day-album-challenge-day-2/

Leonard Cohen, I love his raspy voice and the way he delivers a story. Did you know, Leonard was a more than a Canadian singer, and songwriter. He was also a poet, and novelist. His work explored religion, politics, isolation, depression, sexuality, loss, death and romantic relationships.

Leonard pursued a career as a poet and novelist during the 1950s and early 1960s, and did not begin a music career until 1967 at the age of 33 he turned to music. His greatest influence came from poet Federico Garcia Lorca who was noted for his symbolism and surrealism poetry in Spain.

In 1967, disappointed with his lack of success as a writer, Cohen moved to the United States to pursue a career as a folk music singer–songwriter.

“His song Suzanne became a hit for Judy Collins (who covered a number of Cohen’s other songs as well), and was for many years his most-covered song. Collins recalls that when she first met him, he said he couldn’t sing or play the guitar, nor did he think “Suzanne” was even a song: And then he played me “Suzanne”  … I said, “Leonard, you must come with me to this big fundraiser I’m doing” … Jimi Hendrix was on it. He’d never sung [in front of a large audience] before then. He got out on stage and started singing. Everybody was going crazy—they loved it. And he stopped about halfway through and walked off the stage. Everybody went nuts. … They demanded that he come back. And I demanded; I said, “I’ll go out with you.” So we went out, and we sang it. And of course, that was the beginning.” `wikipedia.

How cool is that to be on stage with Judy Collins and Jimi Hendrix. Both incredible artists, no wonder he walked off stage… it had to be overwhelming when you’re just beginning in the music field.

Leonard passed on November 7th, 2016 at the age of 82. I cried.

I enjoy all of Leonard’s work but this song is my absolute favorite.

Dance Me to the End of Love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I’m gathered safely in
Lift me like an olive branch and be my homeward dove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Oh, let me see your beauty when the witnesses are gone
Let me feel you moving like they do in Babylon
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the wedding now, dance me on and on
Dance me very tenderly and dance me very long
We’re both of us beneath our love, we’re both of us above
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to the children who are asking to be born
Dance me through the curtains that our kisses have outworn
Raise a tent of shelter now, though every thread is torn
Dance me to the end of love

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I’m gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand or touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love
Dance me to the end of love

Uncertain

Today’s word is “uncertain.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

As you know from Esther’s Monday Limerick fun I enjoy writing them very much plus they give me opportunities to vent when I feel frustrated like today. I won’t go into details other than to say today was one of those days I miss my driver’s license immensely because I would have left putting some distance between myself and this situation. There’s nothing more invigorating then cranking the radio and just driving with no destination in mind. Cept maybe today there would have been a end point.

But since Fandago offered a perfect word choice for me to express my irritation. Here goes.

Frustration©

uncertain I seek rumination
nor will a flowery donation
words can’t fix this mistake
or ease painful heartbreak
but I can arrange his cremation

Yup, I feel better.

#Day One: An Album w/ Killer First Track

https://sandmanjazz.wordpress.com/2020/09/01/30-day-album-challenge/

What’s a party without Santana…  mediocre at best.

Abraxas is the second studio album by Latin rock band Santana. It was released on September 23, 1970 by Columbia Records. The first track is instrumental and sets the mood perfectly for the album.  I love this opening cut on the album, it features various percussion and wind chimes as well as some tasty electric piano. Mike Carabello is actually credited as composer, which would explain why it’s percussion laden but oddly,  Mike Shrieve gets sole credit for this song, which is ironic considering there are very few drums in the song. The percussion is provided by the congas and timbales, played by Mike Carabello and Chepito Areas.

I was a freshman in high school when this awesome album was released. Talk about going back in time.

60 Days to Halloween and another Santana tune will be rocking this woman’s music list.

Black Magic Woman
Songwriters: Peter Alan Green
Got a black magic woman
Got a black magic woman
I’ve got a black magic woman
Got me so blind I can’t see
That she’s a black magic woman
She’s trying to make a devil out of me
Don’t turn your back on me, baby
Don’t turn your back on me, baby
Yes, don’t turn your back on me, baby
Stop messing about with your tricks
Don’t turn your back on me, baby
You just might pick up my magic sticks
You got your spell on me, baby
You got your spell on me, baby
Yes, you got your spell on me, baby
Turnin’ my heart into stone
I need you so bad
Magic woman I can’t leave you alone

#Share My World

https://rogershipp.wordpress.com/2020/08/30/share-your-world-8-24-2020/

Roger’s Magical, Mystical Questions:

1.Many local regions, especially rural areas where I live, have haunted houses. Have you ever spent the night in a house that was supposedly haunted? Anything ‘strange” happen?

Actually I have stayed in a haunted house or so it was advertised but nothing out of the ordinary happened. It was a fun evening none the less with good friends and an ouija board. We even tried doing our own seance but the ghosts obviously had better things to do than hang out with us amateurs.

2. The Quidditch Cup (riding broomsticks while chasing a small ball) was a huge sporting event in the land of Hogwarts. What is the largest sporting event (or concert, etc.) that you have ever attended?

I would have to say it was either Michael Bublé in concert or Yo-Yo Ma both were in Newark, New Jersey and both were packed.

3. When you go for a swim, do you prefer an ocean, the seaside lakes, or a pool?

I love walking in wet sand at the ocean and occasionally I do swim there. I enjoy swimming in a pool but I’m not thrilled when kids start splashing. I used to swim all the time in Maine in Lake Wesserunsett located in Madison, Maine. It’s spring fed and so refreshing. That’s my ultimate favorite place to swim. I swam there everyday from June 1st until October 1st when it became just too cold.

4. Ron Weasley received a horrid robe to wear as formal wear to the Christmas dance at Hogwarts. Tell about the most ‘ghastly’ fashion statement that you have ever made.

Back in the 90’s I don’t know if you remember the MC Hammer pants well I loved how loose and comfortable they were. I sewed six different really outlandish colors and wore them well into the early 2000’s well past the height of their peak and crash. I was a school bus driver and jeans were not comfortable to drive 8 hour days but those baggy elastic waist pants were.

Muggle Questions (from Melanie):

1. What is the last song you sang along to?

Responding to Jim’s Sunday lyric post with monster, evil, cruel, etc. I was singing the Monster Mash as I wrote my post. That song always makes me smile.

https://jimadamsauthordotcom.wordpress.com/2020/08/29/shockingly-vile/

2. What was your scariest nightmare about?

I dreamed I was buried alive and could hear voices above me. I screamed but no one heard me. I tried to push the covering away and woke to find myself buried in the comforter.

3. What food do you crave most often?

I typically crave salty food and potato chips are my go to. If I don’t have chips in house, I make popcorn and coat it with salt.

4. What’s your grossest bug story?

When we were kids spending summers at my grandfathers house, my cousin who lived next door on a farm used to save the barn spiders to toss at us girls to make us scream. He slipped one in my sleeping bag one night when we were camping. I felt it crawling on my leg and sprung out of the bag. That was the night I finally fought back, I punched him so hard in the nose, he had two black eyes and a broken nose. That was the end of the practical jokes from him.

To this day, I still hate spiders. I see them and I begin squirming. They don’t even have to to touch me, to make me creepy crawly.

For my final theme in this series, I’m going to ask you tell us what “your plans for September are.” Do you have any? If so, what are they? They can be anything, from posting more (or less) frequently on your blog, taking a trip, learning a new skill, getting married, engaged, or divorced, getting more exercise? Or are you just going to play it by ear? Share a story, a poem, a photo, a drawing, some music, or whatever you wish to share about your plans for September.

https://fivedotoh.com/category/dog-days-of-august/

September is all about selling and packing our stuff so we can move to the next part of our lives.  I’m still waiting on the results for the biopsies. That is really stressing me out. I hate not knowing answers. I prefer to know, plan and do. The next scope is in November to assess the bile duct situation. I know life has so many variables, but the unknown sometimes is worse than the known.

I’m also participating in a blogging challenge on WDC that I’m not hosting. The Virtual Continent Hopping is completed for this year. I have no idea what I’m going to do next year. We began these August virtual blogging adventures with a 2 week camping trip in Maine on Moosehead Lake. Then we decided to make it a month long experience. We backpacked across Europe staying in hostels and traveled by train only. The next year we flew from country to country in South America. The next year we went from concert venue to concert venue across the U.S.. And this year, well as you know we hopped from Antarctica. Australia, Asia, Africa, South America, Central America, and North America ending in Montreal Canada.

I definitely plan on working more on my vignettes and writing poetry.

Did I remember to tell you I finished the baby blanket for Kelsey, the girl in our local writing group? They’re having a boy in about 2 weeks, so I’m glad I finished before he arrived.  I’m very pleased with the results.

What about you Fandago, what are your plans for September prompts? Dog days of September doesn’t have quite same ring as dog days of August. I want to thank you very much for all you do to make writing on wordpress more enjoyable. I do enjoy the prompts.

#FOWC Hunter

Today’s word is “hunter.”

FOWC with Fandango — Hunter

Impatient Medea©
Let me introduce myself, I’m Medea, the youngest of the coven. Sometimes, the village boys call me Temptress because of my looks. I don’t want to be desired by every guy and hated by every girl. Is it my fault, I’m beautiful. No, but does anyone really care. I don’t fit in the human world. Someday, I will show them, that my beauty is the least of their worries.

I know I am ready to begin my black magic training. I see things I cannot explain, I feel things before they happen. I’ve tried to talk to the elders but whenever I try to talk to one of them, they dismiss my thoughts or say that it is just coincidence. If only the elders would let me participate. I hated hiding behind the maple tree. It is so frustrating!

The night in question, I had planned to be here earlier but my chores took longer to finish, so by the time I arrived things were in the cauldron simmering. Did they engage a hunter? Did they already have everything on hand. How am I supposed to learn if they hide every detail.

I watched as the seven elders mumbled their spells while intently stirring the cauldron. Once the pot sizzled loudly, they gathered in a circle holding hands and began chanting together. A purple smoky haze swirled into the darkness and the woods filled with sounds I have never heard before. My head bobbled left and right.

What was that eerie howling in the distance?  I’ve heard coyotes and wolves howl before but this wasn’t them. Why did my skin feel like it has a thousand ants crawling all over me? It’s not like they knew I could see them. I didn’t tell anyone I was coming. Besides, they always say I am too young to know the dark magic. Too young, too young, that’s what everyone says when they don’t want to be bothered. Why was it such a guarded secret? The old ways were fine for the elders but times have changed. Can’t they see I’m busting at the seams to cast my first spell. Doesn’t anyone remember being my age?

The howling became louder; I felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I couldn’t control my shivering. Oops I had made the tree branches shake, so I cursed at myself, Damn it, girl were you trying to get caught by the elders?  I wondered what could possibly make that noise? The elder’s chants were unfamiliar to me and the louder they chanted the closer that strange sound got to us. If only I had seen what they put in the cauldron. I hated knowing half of the story.

A shrill pierced the air… and before I could do anything they all vanished.

Having fun with a Limerick

The word was date: Thank you Esther

https://esthernewtonblog.wordpress.com/2020/08/31/laughing-along-with-limerick-2/

Did I tell you about our first date
actually it’s a stroke of fate
the odds of us meeting
in person was fleeting
online relationship to soulmate

This limerick like most of my poems has a background story involved .

Back in 2000, when the writing groups on yahoo were the scene I was in a writing group. I had posted something and this man  downloaded my piece into a word document and then sent it back to me with revision tracking. My initial reaction was rage, who did he think he was?  Once I cooled off and really looked at all the red on my paper, I realized he made some excellent suggestions especially with the tense and grammar. He offered to help me improve my writing. Initially, I was hesitant since I didn’t know this man from jack. But I accepted and over time we became friends.

Fast forward 3 years later, we met in person and began dating. It was challenging dating long distance with Vic in New Jersey and me in Maine. 8 hours apart. But we made it work and in 2007 I moved to New Jersey and we married a year later on Halloween.

Was either of us looking for a mate?  No, we weren’t, but apparently fate had other plans for us.

I don’t let Vic critique my work these days but there are times when I’m missing something I seek his help. And yes, there are still those days when he tells me I have typos, or I’ve forgotten words because my mind fills in them when they’re not actually on the page yet. Even when I proofread, there are words that simply slip by.

Last day of Virtual Continent Hopping.

Final day Montreal
Well, we’re ending our month long adventure in Montreal.
Another early morning just over 2 hour flight to Montreal.
I got everyone a room at the Four Seasons. Today is our last day of continent hopping. So let’s go out in style.

I’ve offered 3 museum choices, feel free to pick whatever interests you.

We’re meeting up after lunch at 2:00 pm to do a private walking tour.

Dinner is at the Famous Tandem.

The BCoF bloggers went on a different adventure so over dinner you need to tell them what they’ve missed and go back to one of their blog entries and tell them what you liked.

BCof: Choose one of the above museums for your morning adventure like the 30 day bloggers are
After lunch we’re going on a different adventure this afternoon. It’s one of the best things to do in Montreal. Wet, wild and wonderful! Jet Boating the Lachine rapids is not only a local tourist attraction, but a symbol of the spirit, history, fun and adventure that make Montreal a world-class tourist destination. Quite possibly the world’s greatest city boat cruise tour!

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g155032-d649517-Reviews-Saute_Mout…

So this is your opportunity to really make 30 day bloggers envious. Talk about the experiences by reading the reviews and then make it personal.

I snuck a peek at our room before heading out. That’s the great part of this virtual experience, we don’t have to wait until 3pm check in. We can drop our stuff in our room and head out. Sandy and Carly are excited that we’re in their country. Especially Carly, since she refused to come to the US because of the buffoon in the white house. I totally get it. I can’t wait until the elections, hopefully enough voters will support Biden/Harris and kick the asshole to the curb. Oops I went off on a rant instead of telling you about the tub in my room, it’s incredible. A white sunken tub under a heat light set all by itself. I may just sleep in this tonight.

recreation

I was so disappointed the Insectarium was closed. It is supposed to be the place to be. Guess that means I’ll have to come back once its 2021, hopefully by then Americans will be welcome in Canada again. Nor did I know Montreal had a large Jewish community. The museum was interesting but it didn’t hold my interest maybe because I really wanted to see the Barbie Expo. This is not Barbie as I knew her! The Barbie Expo,is conveniently located in the heart of downtown, in Les Cours Mont Royal, Montreal’s most prestigious upscale shopping mall. Admission is free. It is a brilliant and exciting way to showcase the haute couture fashion available at the exclusive flagship boutiques. Wow and wow again, they have a stunning display with 1000 dolls. I had no idea until we arrived that it is the largest permanent Barbie doll expo in the world! A truly incredible selection of world-renowned designers have magnificently fashioned breathtaking outfits for every possible occasion—all of them modeled by the 11.5 inch fashion icon herself. I can’t believe the designers on display are Christian Dior, Donna Karan, Armani, Ralph Laurent, Vera Wang, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Louboutin, Zac Posen, Carolina Herrera, Bob Mackie, and many other authentic fashion all-stars! I didn’t even recognize some of the names but after seeing their work I want to.

I decided to skip the walking tour, they made an announcement that several of their guides are waiting for covid test results because they became sick. I appreciate the heads up, I am immune impaired.

After lunch, we met up to do probably the craziest thing ever. We stripped down to our underclothes and put on a wet suit that had been boiled for our safety. Wet, wild and wonderful is what the guide assured us. His pitch was Jet Boating the Lachine rapids is not only a local tourist attraction, but a symbol of the spirit, history, fun and adventure that make Montreal a world-class tourist destination. He was trying to psyche us up too because he claimed this was the world’s greatest city boat cruise tour!

Well, OMG!! doesn’t begin to describe how awesome this is! We got completely drenched and completely thrilled!! 🙂 It’s like a roller coaster on water!!! It’s NUTS! And the guides are so witty, they did some pretty incredible things! What a way to end our trip,

Dinner at the Tandem started off a bit wonky cos I didn’t remember they were bring your own wine. Sandy was awesome and grabbed some bottles for us to celebrate our last night together. The restaurant was very congenial for us, we had excellent food choices and they didn’t rush us to flip the table. We lingered for a bit with coffee and dessert before heading back to the hotel.

I peeled off my still damp underclothes and made a mad dash to soak in that delightful tub. There was a chocolate covered cherry wrapped on the nightstand I slid into my mouth as I sunk into the steaming oasis. AHHHHhhh  ,this feels divine.
I’m glad my flight back to Jersey isn’t until 2 in the afternoon.I’m going to look around some more since I don’t know when I’ll get back here.

#Song Lyric Sunday

https://jimadamsauthordotcom.wordpress.com/2020/08/29/shockingly-vile/

img_0406This week we have some the more deviant, sinister, sordid, terrible, vicious words  Cruel/Evil/Horrible/Monster/Wicked, and hopefully everyone will be able to find a song that utilizes one of these prompt words in the title or in the lyrics.  Take some time to read the posts of other bloggers who respond to this music challenge, as you will probably find many enjoyable songs and it is quite possibly that you will learn a thing or two.  Share your music with others and post a video, try do some research and let everyone know something about the song that you post.  Show the lyrics, let’s all listen to our favorite songs and explore some new music.  Try to find a song that fits the prompt, then write your post and create a pingback, or you can just place your link in the comments section.

Celtic Frost did the Procreation of the Wicked. It was written by songwriters: Gabriel Fischer Thomas / Martin Stricker / Thomas Gabriel Fischer. The only reason I know of this song is because this is played by my grandson. I can’t say I’m fond of Chris’s music choices but it does fit your request Jim.
Now this song comes from a show that was on Fox but was canceled and then picked up by Netflix. It’s hilarious with a lot of sexual tension, violence with angels and demons in roles we don’t typically think about. I found it much more entertaining than the republican convention and obviously there are signs of intelligence in the writing that is not apparent in Trumps’ commentary.
Being Evil has a Price, it’s the official theme song for the TV show Lucifer. A snippet of it plays during the title sequence of every episode. The song is written by Heavy Young Heathens, a duo that makes music mostly for TV and films.
It’s just a [?] that I run through
If I could get my thoughts across to you
A million dollars for your sorrow, now you’re paying for it
Think twice
Being evil has a price[Chorus]
I hear a lot of little secrets
Tell me yours and I’ll keep it
You oughta know my name by now
Better think twice
‘Cause being evil has a price[Verse 2]
I start to wonder, is this real life?
Throw out a candle, turn out the light
The cars and models make you feel like you’re better than it
Think twice
Being evil has a price

[Chorus]
I hear a lot of little secrets
Tell me yours and I’ll keep it
You oughta know my name by now
Better think twice
‘Cause being evil has a price
I’ve got a nasty reputation
Not a bit of hesitation
You better think twice
‘Cause being evil has a price

[Chorus/Outro]
Being evil has a price
I hear a lot of little secrets
Tell me yours and I’ll keep it
You oughta know my name by now
You better think twice
Being evil has a price
I’ve got a nasty reputation
Not a bit of hesitation
You better think twice
‘Cause being evil has a price

‘Cause being evil has a price
