Uncertain

Today’s word is “uncertain.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

As you know from Esther’s Monday Limerick fun I enjoy writing them very much plus they give me opportunities to vent when I feel frustrated like today. I won’t go into details other than to say today was one of those days I miss my driver’s license immensely because I would have left putting some distance between myself and this situation. There’s nothing more invigorating then cranking the radio and just driving with no destination in mind. Cept maybe today there would have been a end point.

But since Fandago offered a perfect word choice for me to express my irritation. Here goes.

Frustration©

uncertain I seek rumination
nor will a flowery donation
words can’t fix this mistake
or ease painful heartbreak
but I can arrange his cremation

Yup, I feel better.

Having fun with a Limerick

The word was date: Thank you Esther

Did I tell you about our first date
actually it’s a stroke of fate
the odds of us meeting
in person was fleeting

This limerick like most of my poems has a background story involved .

Back in 2000, when the writing groups on yahoo were the scene I was in a writing group. I had posted something and this man  downloaded my piece into a word document and then sent it back to me with revision tracking. My initial reaction was rage, who did he think he was?  Once I cooled off and really looked at all the red on my paper, I realized he made some excellent suggestions especially with the tense and grammar. He offered to help me improve my writing. Initially, I was hesitant since I didn’t know this man from jack. But I accepted and over time we became friends.

Fast forward 3 years later, we met in person and began dating. It was challenging dating long distance with Vic in New Jersey and me in Maine. 8 hours apart. But we made it work and in 2007 I moved to New Jersey and we married a year later on Halloween.

Was either of us looking for a mate?  No, we weren’t, but apparently fate had other plans for us.

I don’t let Vic critique my work these days but there are times when I’m missing something I seek his help. And yes, there are still those days when he tells me I have typos, or I’ve forgotten words because my mind fills in them when they’re not actually on the page yet. Even when I proofread, there are words that simply slip by.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Aug. 29/2020

I don’t even have to leave my chair to answer this question or for that matter even turn my head. I’m surrounded by books and more books. Which is a blessing and a curse. I love to read and that will never be a curse but now that we’re moving there’s no way all of these books can go with us. My granddaughter counted my books one day, I think she was bored but we have over 3000 books in our home. We’re talking a lifetime of reading by two avid readers.

Talk about a reality check.  One I’ve resisted for a very long time, even when my children said to me after their father died that…. I better get rid of all of my books because they don’t want to deal with it.

I didn’t appreciate the commentary then nor do I now. I found it distasteful at the time and deep down I still do. But I’m also quite pragmatic I need to downsize and my extensive library won’t fit. So the daily task of making a sell stack and a keep stack has begun.

In addition to the list of what to sell on Craig’s list and what to list in Facebook marketplace. This growing old or the golden years as we’re led to believe are special aren’t what they’re cracked up to be. It’s another misleading factor in life.

Nor do I appreciate hearing that minimalism is the best way to be. I’m sorry, but I love walking over to take a book off the shelf and opening it to a page where I’ve made a notation that comes in handy now. Or flipping open a cookbook and seeing the notation when I made a recipe for the first time and for who. Was it successful or a disaster. I don’t have that on Allrecipes.com.

Maybe those mementos mean nothing to other people but they sure mean a lot to me.  But then I’m that same crazy lady that has saved every card ever given her. I have more than a hundred of them too! I love looking at them, re-reading the messages and recalling the day. Guess one could call me sentimental and others would call me a pack rat.

Although when I think of pack rat, I think of piles and piles and that’s not what you will discover in my home. Everything has a place right now but will it have in the future… I don’t know.

FOWC with Fandango — Nerd

I’m guilty of being a word nerd.  This is an acrostic poem. If you don’t know what acrostic poem is, the first letter of each line spells the title.

Thirteen
Thirteen weeks in every season
Hot, cold, and a bit of everything in between
Interesting and scary global changes
Risks we humans never considered
The damage will hurt us all
Every nerd and pin head participated
Every thing desirable will vanish.
Nirvana, begged us each to help but we ignored the signs.

I love writing poems, they bring me joy in an odd sort of way.

Thank you

The Janaku is a simple form of three lines per stanza invented by Eileen Tabios. Each line is based on word count instead of syllables, with the first line containing one word, the second line two words, and the third line three words. There is no limit to the number of stanzas.

As artists we share our passion with the world. We help each other reach our goals by supporting each other. For my followers I want to say more than a simple thank you.  You’re awesome ! You’re kind words have helped me with the dark days waiting for the diagnosis, the surgery and the million scary thoughts that ran amok waiting.  You’ve offered prompts that gave my sadness a place to be.  I’m so truly lucky to be part of your world and so very lucky you’re a part of mine. Mr. Bennett says it so much better than me. but these words matter for every blogger writing.

All I can say, is we’ve been very lucky when it comes to hotels thus far but no sleeping in for us because we have a hot air balloon ride
at sunrise. We have an extended check out so we’ll be hanging here until our flight.

After our hot air balloon we’re going shopping.

30 day write a poem or write a story about your adventures in Marrakesh.

Our hot air balloon is named Marrakech Dreams. Man, I think it needs to have a haiku in it’s honor.

Marrakech dreaming
soaring across a sunrise
making memories

I’m a bit nervous, okay a lot nervous about being so high up in the sky. I was surprised how many hot air balloons were in the air around us. I leaned over to the guide and whispered, Have air balloons collided? It looks like the wind has a mind of its own.
Once my stomach stopped whirling I looked down at the desert. Wow, it looked like it was covered in sparkling glitter as the sun teased every grain to life.

I didn’t expect to be this hungry once we landed. The fresh air definitely played a hand in this appetite I’m sure. The food is incredibly delicious. I love the coffee, so dark and flavorful and complimented the Morrocan pastries.
Our guide said it’s M’hanncha aka snake bread. It’s a traditional Moroccan dessert in which warqa pastry is filled with a delicious almond paste, then shaped into a snake-like form. Although there are numerous recipes for the almond paste, it is typically prepared with almonds, sugar, cinnamon, mastic powder, butter, and orange flower water.

M’hanncha can be shaped into small coils, but at social gatherings and festive occasions, it is made in a large version, so the guests can enjoy it by breaking off smaller portions from the end of the coil. When baked, the pastry is often dusted with powdered sugar or brushed with warm honey.

I should be stuffed but this looks so good too. Our guide called them, Sfenj, which are popular Moroccan doughnut-like fritters made from a sticky, unleavened batter. The dough is traditionally shaped into rings and deep-fried until it develops a golden, crispy exterior. The interior should be fluffy, tender, and chewy. These fritters are usually served hot when sold by street vendors, and they can be consumed plain or dusted with icing sugar.  Kind of makes me think of the fried bread dough we get at the fair.

That’s it, no more food for me. Who am I kidding I know once we hit the bazaar, I’ll be sampling again. Thank goodness this is a virtual experience I would weigh 500lbs.

The bazaar is so alive. The music and the vibrant colors displayed by the vendors. Olyvia loves yellow, I need to find my granddaughter something but which yellow. There are so many choices. Plus, I still have Mikhayla and Caitlyn, CJ and Jacob. Damn why did I wait to the last minute.  I’m a woman on a mission, that’s it.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been virtually traveling for 25 days already. Tomorrow we’ll be on our way to the next continent.

Day 2839: August 25 Marrakech,Morocco
Prompt: Marrakech is a beautiful place. Look at Things to do in Marrakech

 https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g293734-Activities-Marrakech_Marrakech_T…

and find something you think is beautiful. Why do you think it is beautiful?

I‘m so enamored with the bazaar I’ve chosen to stay here but then the guide hurried us together to explain.
A guide is essential when it comes to navigating the narrow streets of Marrakech’s historic medina (old town), not least because they can fend off the hustlers and carpet touts. Soak up all the magic of Marrakech by night on a private walking tour with just you and your guide. Exploring from the Djemaa el Fna, enjoy musicians, snake charmers, and dancers, sip tea or coffee, and savor traditional snacks.

I decided for safety sake he’s probably right so off we went to see a snake charmer, grab some more of that delightful coffee and more pastries.. oh my are they tasty.

I can’t wait to ask the ladies what they thought of those little bikes with the tents over them shuffling women discreetly to the market. But our guide assured us women in Morocco are not forced to fully cover up. Women also aren’t required to cover their heads, but the ones that do make it a fashion statement. Wearing a Hijab (head covering) is a way of showing they are proud of their culture.

I love how freeing putting the words on the page is.

Laughing with Limerick

https://esthernewtonblog.wordpress.com/2020/08/24/laughing-along-with-a-limerick-22/

Today’s word was pout. Poor Vic said I was trying to make him throw up with my limerick. Guess while eating breakfast isn’t the time to discuss vomiting or is it.? Limericks are fun for me and this one especially holds true because of my own experience.

As a child, my aunt made sauerkraut. I thought it tasted horrible but my mother insisted and I did just what my narrator did I spewed it all out across her table. Being sent to my room without dinner in this incident was actually a blessing.

Will you just eat the dang sauerkraut
You’re hurting her feelings with your pout
I can’t do it, Momma
Cease with the damn drama
I gagged … out it all spewed in one spout ©

Thanks Esther.

#FOWC Rocket

Today’s word is “rocket.”

Write a post using that word. It can be prose, poetry, fiction, non-fiction. It can be any length. It can be just a picture or a drawing if you want. No holds barred, so to speak.

did you say rocket
I want to fly away, too
one gazing moment

I wasn’t going to respond to this word choice because my group meets tonight but then as darkness fell I saw a streak across the sky and it looked like a rocket flare and a haiku came to mind.

Elegy attempt # 2

Pained Reality©

I caught myself in the mirror, totally unaware

yet I hardly recognized this stranger staring back at me

In a glimpse showed I was in desperate need of repair

But my deeply installed manners say, don’t judge what I see.

Maybe if I blink, her image will vanish until tomorrow

And with that brief reprieve, that which struck her core

Will be undone and free her from such horrific sorrow.

And once again, there will be the woman impossible to ignore.

This Ellegy discusses what it’s like  being unable to grieve
