Everyone says this is the gem of India, what are your thoughts?

We’re dining at Tea’se Me a recoomended place to see Agra at night from the roof top restaurant.

India borders seven countries. I knew it was large, I just didn’t think about the borders until now. My second thought is there’s a lot of huge buildings that once were castles or monasteries that are now tourist traps but there’s a voice in me that asks how could anyone build such a huge monstrosity while everyone lived in poverty around you. There’s no mistaking the reality of their caste system.
“The Taj Mahal is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the southern bank of the river Yamuna in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan (reigned from 1628 to 1658) to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. “~ Wikipeida. All I can say looking at the huge building, I felt angry. I can’t believe the arrogance of the emperor.
Looking at it from an art perspective, it has exceptional architectural aspects because the Taj Mahal incorporated and expands on design traditions of Persian and earlier Mughal designs. I was fascinated with the outside exterior decorations of the Taj Mahal. They are among the finest in Mughal architecture. “As the surface area changes, the decorations are refined proportionally. The decorative elements were created by applying paint, stucco, stone inlays or carvings. In line with the Islamic prohibition against the use of anthropomorphic forms, the decorative elements can be grouped into either calligraphy, abstract forms or vegetative motifs. Throughout the complex are passages from the Qur’an that comprise some of the decorative elements. Recent scholarship suggests that Amanat Khan chose the passages”~ Wikipedia

I have to admit it was worth seeing but my tummy says time to move on.

I’m quite hungry after yesterday’s procedure. Many of you were unaware that since January I’ve had issues initially with the gallbladder, that was removed but the problems continued and a second procedure was done this time by an endoscope which discovered a gall stone blockage. They put a stent in hoping to allow the bile duct to heal because it was inflamed. They removed the stent 6 weeks later but the bile duct was still inflamed. They cleared the sludge and sent it for a biopsy. This came back cancerous. I had all the tests for the pancreas because pancreatic cancer runs in my family history. No mass in the pancreas or liver just the area in the bile duct. Yesterday, they removed that section of my bile duct that was cancerous and since was going to be under anesthesia recheck my esophagus ( I had cancer there already back in 2000) and do a colonoscopy too. So yeah, yesterday was a fun day. I will be under observation for quite some time but at least it is gone from my body. At least the doctor believes he successfully removed it all.

I had more energy yesterday than I do today. It is what it is. So I’m going to focus on some good food. My fellow bloggers mentioned a few chicken dishes … I wonder if they’re spicy I have to go easy right now.

Tea’ se Me odd name but we didn’t come for the name. I chose this location because it was near to the Taj Mahal and our stragglers could catch up easily. All the food was amazing, I ordered dal, tikka massala, naan and a few other items to share with the group. I decided to have a bottle of seltzer water. I so apologize for the burping. I didn’t expect to have left over gas after all the walking we did.

BCoF.. discuss the different types of entertainment that are popular in India. Is it different than what we’re used to and why? Would this type of entertainment work in the U.S. or the U.K. or where our friend Petra lives?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arts_and_entertainment_in_India

Wow, India has 22 recognized language and some of literature written is considered to be oldest in the world. With that said I noticed interesting music so I wandered outside. On my goodness there were people gathered aound listening to what I was told a Carnatic music concert. I hope my fellow bloggers hear this. It’s so busy here I’m having trouble finding their faces. I don’t want to yell out Petra, Sandra, Carly, Neva, Blue, and Judith where are you?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CnhcGpmH9Y

I don’t see people gathering like this in many parts of the states. Though I may be wrong. We have so many ignorant people that want all foreigners sent home. The music is very soothing to me and definitely different than my usual exposure. I’m a very eclectic listener and would add this to my collection in a heartbeat. I’m sure where Petra lives they would be more open than here in the states under this leadership that has encouraged the maggots to surface from the cracks. Knowing by what he has shown thus far, he would send his henchmen if people were gathered peacefully as he has done with #blacklives matter.

A beautiful group of young women began dancing what we were told is classical Indian dance. They seem to float in the air, their body movements are mesmerizing to watch with the lovely silks swaying.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_classical_dance

The second act was examples of the Indian folk dances. Very interesting performance. They’re barefoot yet they bounced effortlessly across the floor.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_folk_dances

Phew, I’m really tired even after taking three naps today. I just don’t have any energy.

l- c day 81, # one liner Wednesday, #FDDA

I know I’ve maintained a pretty good attitude thus far but today this crap, gavilyte deserves a huge thumbs down. It tastes nasty and has made me feel bloated and uncomfortable all day. I understand why I have to drink it but seriously it doesn’t taste any better than the last time I had it. Come on with all the improvements in medicine they couldn’t improve on this. Just because you’re older and they insist you have colonoscopies on a regular basis doesn’t mean they should punish you with this crap.  All of the procedures are tomorrow. Okay vent over.  I’ll give you a one-liner instead

I used to have a handle on life, but then it broke.

One-Liner Wednesday – Strength

I always take life with a grain of salt, and a slice of lemon, and a shot of tequila.

Today’s theme  by Fandago is “something that brings you joy.” Is it your family? Friends? Your job? Your religion? Share a story, a poem, a photo, a drawing, some music, or whatever you wish to share about something that brings you joy.

I can safely say gavilyte doesn’t bring me joy.

My family and my friends bring me immense joy. I’m the proud mom of 4 adult children, 6 living grandchildren and sadly 3 deceased grandchildren. My heart is full with memories good and bad.

What brings me the most joy everyday besides that first cup of coffee in the morning are my fur babies. W.B Yeats and Macavity. They make mundane days exceptional. Like for instance, this morning I went to slip my foot into my shoe because I had an appointment for blood work. If you could have seen me spring my foot back when I felt something inside that tickled my skin. (I’m either blessed or cursed with very sensitive skin, today I felt blessed I’m not overly fond of crawly things. They have their place just not in my shoes.)  There was indeed something unexpected inside, a pretty fair sized cricket. How it got inside my shoe is beside me, it must have came in when I was watering the plants on the deck. But the humorous part came next. Macavity sprang on top of my shoe wrapping his paws completely around  like he was engaged in a battle while the cricket watched on the floor a short hop away. I slid the sliding door open and nudged the cricket out. While Macavity snarled at my shoe. God only knows what war he was waging. I decided to go get a different pair of shoes and leave him to his mission. When I returned home from the blood work about twenty minutes later, (the lab is a block from my house) he was sleeping on top of my shoe. When he finally did move from my shoe I looked inside, there wasn’t any other guests.

Vic the other night discovered a praying mantis staring at him on his desk.  We released him back outside. However in the morning, it was looking in the window hanging on the screen while Yeatsie was studying it.  Macavity came over and immediately tried to swat it but the praying mantis had the advantage and moved out of his reach.

Who needs television, my daily entertainment doesn’t cause stress like the nightly news.

I don’t suffer from insanity—I enjoy every minute of it.

My song choice for today is one that makes me giggle whenever I hear it. I had a yellow polka dot bikini way back in the day.  It looked really nice on me until that oopsie moment. I had gone water skiing with some friends from high school. I took a nose dive skiing but when I surfaced my top was no where to be seen. I didn’t have another top to slip on so when I went to get back into the boat there were lots of giggles from my girl friends and lots of very direct oogling from the boys. The skiing belt didn’t do much for coverage either. Unfortunately, I didn’t find my bikini top.

I really liked that suit a lot.

After that day whenever I did go skiing I learned to bring a tee shirt with me or to wear one of my boring one piece suits.

Virtual Continent Hopping day 2 of Halong Bay, Vietnam

30 day Halong Bay, we’re going for an up-close look at its amazing limestone islands, rock formations and caves. Whittled away over centuries by wind and water, they’re breathtaking.

Today we’re going to see Sung Sot Cave (Surprised Cave) and Titop island

Discuss what you’ve learned and what you felt seeing the pictures.

All I can say is wow. The name of Sung Sot cave means “Surprised Cave” or “Amazing Cave” in English, because of its huge space with incredible natural points. T We were impressed from our very first moment setting foot inside. Truthfully, I was nervous because I’m claustrophobic but I had nothing to worry about. I chuckled when Carly said it’s larger in here than the white house. (I wondered if during the war they had meetings here, totally off the radar for sure.) Our guide was very engaging as we looked at the numerous stalactites and stalagmites growing up and down from the floor and ceiling along the paved passage. I couldn’t begin to count how many.

I’m impressed with how each of the caves is a bit different inside. I think I liked Dau Go Cave the best just because of the shapes.

I’m glad we wandered to the beach to diffuse ourselves. The amount of people did get to me. Our # squid squawkers crew opted for a picnic on the beach. Awesome weather and so relaxing.

Carly discovered this link. It’s very informative about a woman’s life in Vietnam.

Bánh Trôi Nước : Song about Vietnamese women’s life

Reality check: It’s a bit challenging for me today because I’m having to this gavilyte solution while we’re doing the tour. If I dart off quickly it’s because I’m heading for the porta-potty. I’m so looking forward to getting tomorrow done so I can focus on our adventure. It’s been a great distraction, one I truly needed so I didn’t think about the letter-c. In the morning, I have the endoscopic ultra sound and hopefully the full removal of the malignancy, the upper gi scope and the colonscopy all in wham bam thank you maam and we’re done.
No worries, I got you covered we’ll be in a very restful place tomorrow.
BCoF prompt is Halong Bay is located by the sea so needless to say there are a variety of local fruits and vegetables and you can also check out the local seafood. There are huge mounds of crabs, jump shrimp and fish here, and if you want to set up your own beach barbecue later then this is the place to source your produce.

Take us on a shopping excursion. What’s different about Vietnamese markets versus ours?

https://www.visithalongbay.com/travel-tips/halong-bay-food-guide.html

https://vina.com/halong-night-market/

https://www.fareastour.asia/guide/detail/what-to-eat-in-halong-bay-22.html
I overheard one of the tourists talking about this food experience journey that he and his girlfriend had just done. I wish I had heard about it earlier I might have taken the group to explore the food. I checked it out on trip advisor.
“The founder of modern marketing Philip Kotler once said that “kitchen of the world” is a suitable image for Vietnam, with her bounty of good dishes. Different from other part of the world, Vietnamese food contains elements of the fine arts, science and the balance of the yin – yang. From a street food with local food blogger in Hanoi, a Royal Dinner in Hue to a cooking class in Mekong delta, you will have chance to savor the Vietnamese food along the journey. Let’s embark on our culinary journey and learn more about its’ taste.” whoa, the price tag said, not happening. 1610.00 dollars, we can buy a lot of food at the night market for that kind of money.
The night market opened in early 2015, Halong Night Market is a part of Halong Marine Plaza Entertainment and Trade Center. At the Halong Night Market,we could go shopping, take part in many fun entertainment activities and taste so many different dishes as we explored. Especially those of us For those who like snacking we found a lot of delicious sidewalk dishes in Halong at cheap affordable prices such as: beer oyster, grilled seafood. I played it safe and stayed with my liquids so I don’t get a lecture from the doctor while you’re enjoying your relaxing day.  I think what’s different from the ones in the states are the energy level. The Vietnamese people are very energetic and a bit pushy when it comes to sales. But I did see people negotiating the prices, we don’t see much of that here unless you go to lawn sales

#FDDA 11 and letter c day 80

Today’s theme is “your greatest fear.” Is it death? Disease? Ghosts? Someone? Something? Share a story, a poem, a photo, a drawing, some music, or whatever you wish to share about your greatest fear.

https://fivedotoh.com/category/dog-days-of-august/

Death has never frightened me. We begin dying the day we’re born.

“Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.” dictionary. com

As a teenager in an alcoholic abusive home, I tried to take my life more than once, the first time with a knife but that action was driven more by frustration than actual desire to die. I was being punished for something I hadn’t done again so I drove the knife repeatedly into my arm in a rage. The second time was done seeking death, I took a slew of mother’s prescription drugs. I came close but ended up getting my stomach pumped in the nick of time.

As an adult I tried to shoot myself because I was tired of the physical and verbal abuse I suffered in my marriage. It’s a good thing I have lousy aim, or we wouldn’t be together now. But I do have a scar to remind me how desperate one can feel.

The First Time

He stood…
Like a pinless grenade
Reeking smell of alcohol

Rage stood…
A shocking verbal tirade
She was just the catch all

Power stood…
His fist like a fusillade
Struck just under her eyeball

She stood…
Stunned and afraid
Tears flowed like a waterfall

Betrayal stood…
Where once was a serenade
Now the silence, hung like an iron wall

These are the times my own hand was involved. I spent a very long time in counseling and  discovered another way to  express my frustration, anger and pain. Poetry gave me a voice.

My health issues involving cancer have frightened me but their not my greatest fear. I see them as inconveniences but they deserve no other recognition than that. I will not succumb to cancer. I’m too damn stubborn. Writing everyday has helped keep me focused.

I’ve helped my sons with their losses of their babies. Painful and heartbreaking but not fearful except for the night my eldest son tried to take his life after the death of his son. It’s not easy being a mom, helpless to ease your child’s pain let alone cope with your own pain because your grandchild is dead. Writing again gave my pain a voice.

I’ve talked with women my age and they fear living alone without their husbands. I love my husband but I don’t fear the time alone until we’re together again. I encouraged them to write before they’re in that situation.

It’s been difficult to really come up with something that meets the criteria for greatest fear because I’m okay with death it’s just a part of my generation’s journey. I do think about what if my mind vanishes because of Alzheimer’s disease but that would be no different than letting the letter c control my life. I can’t think of myself when there are greater concerns.

So, I’m going with global warming. I’m frightened , worried by how quickly the water is rising, and our environment is changing. We’re destroying our homes, our lives, our children and grandchildren and great grandchildren’s futures. I wish I knew how to stop it. It breaks my heart looking in their eyes knowing this earth is on a self destruct course we aren’t going to be able to fix.

Letter c and other medical.

Tomorrow is the blood work, Thursday is the procedures. Monday was supposed to be my nerve block for the migraines but now the appointment is moved to Wednesday. That’s probably my biggest personal gripe about covid, every appointment I’ve had since March has been rescheduled at least once, some two times. But compared to what has happened to other people, it’s not worth getting grumpy about. It is what it is. We’re all making sacrifices on a daily basis.

I chose Sunshine of My Life Earlier because of a good friend and mine and our poetry writing endeavors. I don’t know if you know the background but the group was struggling with writers block when one of the guys was looking out the window and commented it was just before dawn which led to the discussion on what he would rather be doing. Making love with his girl. From that simple conversation, the words flowed and the song rose to stardom.

My friend and I have those great conversations and some times that’s all I or he need, (s) the words come. When you have good friends, family and you’re loved and love in return than fear is simply part of life, how you face it is what truly matters.

The pieces in our lives that really matter

And as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen
Turns them to shapes and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name.
– William Shakespeare (from A Midsummer Night’s Dream)

I was talking with a good friend this afternoon. Our conversation wandered to the different levels of friendships we have in our lives.  His role in my life evolved from a poetic ray of sunshine to a very dear friend.  Our relationship began because we share the love of language in a very precise manner. I think very highly of his work. He prefers haiku’s and senryu’s where as I prefer writing limerick’s and acrostics and found poetry but I have written haiku’s and senryu’s.  We’re both expanding our writing styles. I’m guilty when I’m stressed of falling back on my poetry. It’s my crutch at times.

I appreciate the way his brain. He helped me when I’ve struggled getting just the right word in a poem  when I lost my grandson. I needed the exact word in the poem. He was so helpful because when he writes a poem every word is carefully chosen. I knew once he looked at my poem, it would be alright. He’s a master of vocabulary especially for such a young man.

Which reminded me of this old song because at its foundation, it’s a tender love song but it’s actually more than that. It’s a great example what can happen when people collaborate. Did you know the whole morning theme happened by accident because the band was suffering from writers’ block while trying to compose the lyrics. And one of its co-writers, Pete Brown, happened to be gazing out the window at the time and penned the opening line, “it’s getting near dawn”, which gave birth to the lyrical composition of the rest of the track.

Read more at: https://www.songmeaningsandfacts.com/sunshine-of-your-love-by-cream/

It’s getting near dawn,
When lights close their tired eyes
I’ll soon be with you my love,
To give you my dawn surprise
I’ll be with you darling soon,
I’ll be with you when the stars start falling
I’ve been waiting so long
To be where I’m going
In the sunshine of your love
I’m with you my love,
The light’s shining through on you
Yes, I’m with you my love,
It’s the morning and just we two
I’ll stay with you darling now,
I’ll stay with you till my seas are dried up
I’ve been waiting so long
To be where I’m going
In the sunshine of your love
I’m with you my love,
The light’s shining through on you.
Yes,…

Virtual Continent Hopping- Halong Bay, Vietnam

30 day
Halong Bay, Vietnam

We’re doing a 2 day/2night cruise Day 11 and Day 12 will be in Halong Bay.

https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g293924-d20211050-Halong_bay…

Kayaking, swimming on the beach. learning how to make Vietnamese spring rolls and after dinner squid fishing.

Let your imagination get carried away, discuss what fun things you’ve experienced.

It’s a good thing they allowed us to buy the vacancies so our cruise didn’t get cancelled. That would have been heartbreaking. It’s sad we had 18 responses of yes but only 8 participants regularly respond. I guess it is what it is. I remember the first year I did this virtual traveling we had 17 regular participants in Maine and then we went back-packing across Europe and we had 34 participants. South America had 20 participants. It’s sad to me that blogging seems to be falling out of favor. Anyway, that’s my thoughts on the matter.

In our cabin was posted this list of do’s and don’t’s in Vietnam. I’ll definitely have to rein Vic in, he’s always showing public displays of affection. Apparently, their frowned upon here among other things.

https://www.worldnomads.com/explore/southeast-asia/vietnam/dos-and-donts-when-tr…

It’s hard to believe its been ten days since I was last in a kayak. It’s one of my ultimate favorite things to do on the water. So once I drained the coffee pot, and emptied my bladder for yet another time I hit the water racing initially just to stretch my arms out. My legs got quite a work out yesterday climbing around the falls and the day before pedaling my butt off on the bike.

I can’t help but wonder if my eyes are playing tricks on me but the guide assures Hạ Long Bay, is known for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rain forests.  He suggested I check out the islands Stone Dog and Teapot islets. He said, I would know by their shapes.
I navigated my kayak around to both islands. They’re indeed beautiful, but I was disappointed when I was told out that I cannot swim in the water. But once I learned why, I was glad I passed. The party boats and cruise ships dump their waste in the bay.

I learned later there are beaches that offer swimming that don’t have the same issues and are tested regularly for swimming safety. Carly raved about how nice the water was. Dang, I wish I had known. Oh well, maybe tomorrow since we’re here for two days.

I don’t know about you ladies but my tummy is growling, those rice cakes didn’t hold me after all the paddling. I’m hungry.

Lunch was  banh xeo, it’s origin was from a French dish, the iconic crepe. The name banh xeo translated to English literally means “sizzling cake”. Banh xeo is made from rice flour mixed with coconut milk and seasoned with turmeric which creates the yellow color. Inside, the crepe is packed with slices of boiled pork, shell-on prawns, bean sprouts and sprinkled with a handful of mung bean.

To fully experience banh xeo, you’ve got to be a vegetables lover and ready to “get down and dirty”. The reason is because you will be wrapping these slices with some fresh herbs and of course use your hands to eat. After wrapping, you will be dipping it in watered down fish sauce. Unlike cha ca or bun cha, banh xeo is widely popular in Southern Vietnam.

Since we’re all gathered in the kitchen we went onto our afternoon lesson of creating spring rolls. Yummy. more veggies for me.

The afternoon slipped away and it was time for our squid fishing. Yup, we’re fishing for part of our dinner. I did ask what happens if we don’t catch any the guide laughed said you eat veggies. I’m good with that. I do like batter fried squid occasionally but actually catching and killing it… not my cup of tea. Maybe after it’s cooked I’ll change my mind, I do tend to be fickle.

BCoF:
Prompt: Pick out one of the five legends/myths in this article: The Legend of Halong Bay: Discover Myths Behind The Names https://www.visithalongbay.com/insight-guides/the-legend-of-halong-bay.html and write a story or poem based on the legend/myth
.

I was fascinated with learning more about The legend of Trinh Nu (Virgin) Cave. It’s a tragic love story. The cave is located on Bo Hon Island which is also where Sung Sot (surprise) Cave is located.

“The story goes as follows: once upon a time there was a beautiful fisherman’s daughter. She came from a poor family but one day a rich man, upon seeing her beauty, proposed to marry her. The girl was already engaged to another fisherman whom she loved dearly, so she declined the rich man’s proposal. Outraged by her dismissal, he banned her and her entire family to a desert island.

The girl’s fiance scoured the bay trying to find his long lost love but all to no avail, and on a rainy and stormy night, starving and exhausted, the girl turned to stone.

The fiance, who was still searching for her, got caught in the storm and his boat capsized. He washed ashore on the same deserted island and in a glimpse, he saw her. He tried reaching out to her, to talk to her , but it was no use: the wind swept away his words. He tried to get her attention by slamming rocks into a cliff, all to no effect. The boy tried and tried until he was too exhausted and he himself turned to stone as well.

The place where the girl turned to stone was Trinh Nu Cave. Nowadays there is a natural statue of her in front of the cave. The statue of the petrified man facing the Trinh Nu cave is also still there to this day. Since the two lovers never had a chance to marry, locals decided to call the cave ‘Trinh Nu’ or ‘Virgin’. ”

https://www.visithalongbay.com/insight-guides/the-legend-of-halong-bay.html

I can’t wait until tomorrow, we’ll be seeing it up close and personal. I’m going to take lots of pictures.

Two stones monuments immortalized
like the mythical gods of old
their glorified struggles for love
refused to die but instead
stood as a reminder
love cannot be destroyed if true
it will find a way to exist
inspiring each of us to dare
to love and to be loved.©

letter c day 79

We did the early run to Cherry Hill to get the covid swab. I was told it was going to be a nasal swab but when I got there it was a throat swab instead. So when I got back home I decided to look up the CDC recommendations for the swabs. The most accurate is the nasal but throat swabs are acceptable but do have a higher margin of error. So do we know what we need to know or don’t we.

The process was like going to a drive up except you didn’t go to a window. Cars were directed into a curved driveway a nurse came out wearing a hazmat suit and a container with my name and two swabs. She verified the information, asked me to raise my mask to uncover my mouth slightly and to lean back a little. The swab inspired a gag reaction that was close to a vomit moment. I coughed and choked into my mask. I wished I had brought water with me to get that dry sensation off the back of my throat.

Bonus, dunkin donuts was .4 tenths of a mile away so I got a cup of coffee and a vanilla creme donut. So my day definitely improved but now the waiting game. Wednesday, I will get the call whether I’m clear for the procedures on Thursday.

Crocheting and Short Story Critiquing:

I’m taking a brief break from my rose sweater to crochet one of the writers in our group a baby blanket. She’s having a boy. I worked on it last night while we discussed Division by Zero” (5600 words) by Ted Chiang, whose novella “Story of Your Life” was the basis for the movie Arrival.   Our protagonist fell out of love with math at the same time her husband realized he didn’t love her anymore. It was an unusual approach to relationships and how one can be oblivious to the signs because we’re so wrapped in our worlds. Our protagonist is so involved in mathematics that she has lost sight of the importance of balance professionally and personally. Her husband had a lot in common with her but had discovered what he was lacking in his life and that she wasn’t the one to fulfill that need.

It’s fun to dissect a story together because it gives us practice in critiquing without hurting anyone’s feelings because the author isn’t there. I had to read and re-read this story to really understand it. I found the math references a bit over the top and distracting though I do realize the math messages helped identify him and her. Each time I read it I discovered different levels of the character’s personalities.

Cancer toolkit:

I’ve been slack in sharing the last few days. My humblest apologies.

Rosemary is a digestive aid as well as being anti-inflammatory. Bet you didn’t know it increases blood flow to the brain.

Saffron is also a digestive and anti-inflammatory.

Sage, there’s more to this herb than burning it to cleanse one’s space. It’s anti-tumor. It’s part of the mint family and mimics rosemary in its medicinal purposes. There’s a study going on with its oil for skin cancer lesions. So for me personally, I have a lot drying right now so I can cleanse our next home before moving in.

This song has been playing over and over in my head as I go through things in our home. So many questions, so many unanswered ones yet.   “Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To)” is a song written by Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin. It was initially recorded by American singer Thelma Houston in 1973, and then by Diana Ross as the theme to the 1975 Motown/Paramount film Mahogany.”- wikipeida.  It’s funny, I remember when I first heard this song forty-seven years I had a ton of questions then too!

Do You Know
Where you’re going to?
Do you like the things?
That life is showing you
Where are you going to?
Do you know?
Do you get?
What you’re hoping for?
When you look behind you
There’s no open doors
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?
Once we were standing still, in time
Chasing the fantasies and feeling all nice
You knew how I loved you, but my-spirit was free
Laughing at the questions
That you once asked of me
Now looking back at all we’ve had
We let so many dreams just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long, before we see?
How sad the answers to those questions can be
Do you get?
What you’re hoping for
When you look behind you
There’s no open doors
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?

We’re going to have a picnic by the falls this afternoon. And spend some quality time together. Give a
brief summation of the last ten days including today’s sights.in your entry today.

My response: I felt the need for some quiet time so instead of wandering around I went directly to the Haew Suwat Waterfall so I could meditate. Reflection is good for the soul. I was surprised to see the field of sunflowers. I decided to look for a path to them. Not such a good idea, a dang snake decided to charge at me. Thankfully, one of the locals kicked it aside. Geez it was a huge Copperhead Rat Snake, apparently they’re found throughout Thailand. The local said these snakes hang out in wooded areas, as well as cultivated land, villages and towns and live at ground level. They are active mostly during the day and sometimes at twilight and at night. Usually, this fast snake flees if it sense danger. If they are cornered, they show typical defensive behavior in that they shape their body into a double S and snap at their opponent. I didn’t think I was threatening but apparently with my walking stick he disagreed. Thank goodness it’s not a venomous snake.

I think I’ll go back to the falls, and check out the caves. Hopefully, there won’t be anymore snakes hanging around. I took lots of pictures of the falls, the mushrooms, and some interesting looking birds. I should have paid more attention to their squawking because a macaques stole my water bottle that was stuffed in my back pocket. GRRR. Now, I’ll have to wait to the group gathers at noon when the guide delivers our picnic lunch. Well, at least I got lots of pictures.

BCoF: Prompt: Pick one of these fun places and write about it. Experience Thailand With These 10 Things To Do In Pak Chong! – Updated 2020 https://trip101.com/article/things-to-do-pak-chong

My response: I didn’t realize we were that close to the Sunflower farm, now I know the name of the place where the Copperhead Rat Snake was. Apparently, the Saraburi Sunflower Field remains yellow during November to January, in the season of sunflowers.

Once we all gather I’m going to suggest the Night Market. The guy who rescued me from the snake highly recommended it. Apparently, this city was originally known for its markets. The night market of Pak Chong showcases mouthwatering street food along with the desserts, delicious BBQ dishes. He assured me each of the markets of this town have a separate flavor that cannot be expressed in words. I don’t know about you but I’m always into sampling food.

I chuckled reading the different blog entries especially Carly’s and Sandra’s concern about my feet. I’m still glad I tried it because my feet feel amazing and look so nice. No dead skin, or calluses visible anywhere. I guess, I should have told them about going to the lake and sitting on the bridge abutment while the sunflower fish nibbled away on my feet. I already knew how good fish make your feet feel.. But I understood their concern because there had been some negative reviews but there had also been some awesome ones. Some risks pay off, some don’t.  I’m glad mine did.
It makes me feel good to read the difference responses. We’ve learned a lot together on the three continents thus far. Personally, I’m relieved we didn’t get hung up with the whole opal heist adventure. I want to thank Blue, Judy, Anne, Carly, Nina, Sandy, Willy, and Karry for engaging in each other’s blogs to make this virtual experience more engaging. I really wish Nick and Chuckles had more free time to join us. I totally get Ellie not wanting to leave New Zealand, looks like they’ve won the safest place in the world when it comes to covid. Though, I will admit I”ve been impressed reading the precautions the different hotels and restaurants have posted for traveler awareness.

Hocus pocus, that’s hardly a spell

At least, not one a good witch could sell

Did you come to tumble

Ditch the mumble jumble

The way he’s shaking it’s hard to tell.

Hocus pocus, that’s hardly a spell

At least, not one a good witch could tell

Ditch the mumble jumble

Or we’re gonna rumble

For a hefty price I’ve got some to sell

*************************************************

did I tell you about that last man

he really messed with my  game plan

I perfected a spell

and I sent him to hell

cos he wanted me to join his clan

Marie and I leaned back in our rocking chairs, cackling  like two old crones with a secret.  Marie started humming another man done gone. Guess, he should have asked the right question.

letter c day 78

A lot has been on my mind all the things, coming in every direction and it dawned on me.  Feelings are supposed to be tender because once they’ve become hard, they aren’t feeling anymore. I thought it was simply indifference driving me but it’s not.  I’ve shut myself down, again. Self preservation has value.  The week ahead is going to take all of my energy.

I’m choosing to focus on what’s important right now to keep my head in the right place. Then, I’ll begin the next steps of our journey. I ‘m actually emotionally ready for the move. There’s so many things for out there for Vic and I to enjoy.  I miss seeing him laugh. He’s stressed all the time. Reality is this house is sucking the life out of us. But trying to be the iron woman right now I can’t do, I know it’s gotten me through every other time but this time I’ve chosen a slightly different approach.

I’ve gone in every room and made a list of what’s going on Craig’s list and what will be included in the move. Organization I believe will make it easier in the bigger picture for us while we handle the letter-c.

It’s sad how many places are not accepting donations because of Covid 19.  Clothing doesn’t hold germs as long as hard surfaces so I don’t get why there refusing. Just when I was resigned to tossing good clothing into the trash, a card arrived in the mail from the Veteran’s. The clothing now has a new destination.

I was thinking about my song and I’m going back to my first song since I started documenting this letter-c. Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. There’s a distant ship on our horizon, one I believe with all my heart is the right thing even though I know there are aspects that aren’t perfect.  But then what is perfect?

If life was perfect than Johnny, Logan and Sammy would be here and not in heaven. Grandchildren aren’t supposed to die before their grandparents. There is nothing more devastating for a parent or a grandparent than losing a child. The pain and grief are indescribable, often leaving families shattered, in shock, and unable to process all the emotions that come with such a tragic event.

I remember when I lost my own baby a good friend said to me. She didn’t remember who said it. I looked it online and google said unknown. It doesn’t matter what matters is those precious babies aren’t here.
